AV Shield Round 2 Results

October 25, 2015 by Peter McGarry Leave a Comment

What a fantastic day of athletics Round 2 provided for all at SKAAC.

We were greeted by a fantastic setting after over an hour travel time, at Mt. Evelyn on a fairly new track.

The highlight was clearly the 27 athletes that were present to represent SKAAC. Special mention to the athletes that made their debuts for the club

Massimo Acquaro, Chris Milne, Chris Hibbert, Daniel Martin and significantly two athletes from Loreto Mandeville, Alex Jago & Astrid Ratcliffe.

It was a “back to SKAAC” day in many regards with the return of Tamma and Shaun Hargreaves and the mood around the tent was something to behold.

Plenty of highlights on the track (see results & ladders attached), some notables…

  • Women Under 16 200m Astrid Ratcliffe 28.55 & Alex Jago 30.77
  • Jack Holden 8:36.1 3000m (9th All time for SKAAC)
  • APS Premiership star Connor Fry running 23.32 for 200m to be SKAAC’s fastest for the day.
  • Tristan Day running a massive PB in the Under 16 300m of 9:53.2
  • Jason Kozica wunning the 3000m Walk in 15:01
  • Tom Scroggie 2:21.5 800m (PB by 14sec)
  • Joel Imbriano picking up 3 PB’s
  • Massimo Acquaro getting super close to the Under 15 200m club record of 24.4s (held by Tamma) running 24.67s
  • Tamma having a couple of close attempts at the Open Shot record.
  • Phil Borg winning the Under 16 200m in 23.49.
  • Shaun Hargreaves winning the Open Hammer with 31.06 (7th all time for SKAAC)
  • Hugo Goodman & Tom Scroggie stepping up to Under 16 for the 4x200m relay.

Team results were:

APS Athletics Championship Forecast (17th October)

October 16, 2015 by Peter McGarry Leave a Comment

The hopes of a 5th consecutive championship are alive in the squad. The boys are aware that there is still much work to do however with strong middle distance and field athletes the team is confident of producing a really good team score.

The competition will be held at Lakeside, starting at 1pm (the open 800m is the first event on the track) and will conclude at 5pm, trophy presentations are made after the last event.

All are welcome to attend the APS Athletics as there is no AV competition scheduled tomorrow – get down and support the mighty SKC.

APS Athletics Heats Day Results (14th October)

October 16, 2015 by Peter McGarry Leave a Comment

It was a record breaking heats day at Lakeside stadium for the boys in green, gold and blue. With 21 A-grade qualifications out of 23 races, the most in our college history. This year’s captain, Jack Anderson, lead from the front with win in the opening heat of the first event. Jack clocked 49.3 for the 400m in blustery conditions, the fastest of the meet. He would return later in the day to team up with T. Jok, R. Losty and clubman C. Fry, to again run under 50secs for his leg in the Open 400m relay, qualifying them for A grade and setting a new school record in the process.

The SKC junior sprinters had a big heats schedule but clubman and defending champion Phillip Borg was up to the challenge qualifying for A grade in the 100, 200 and 100 relay; he has also added the long jump to his busy Saturday this year! M. Acquaro “the Williamstown WIZ” was brilliant on Wednesday gaining A grade qualifiers in all sprint events (100,200, 100 and 400 Relay), the most for the team.

The hurdles proved a real strength for the team with all students holding their nerve over the sticks. Including clubmen M. Hope, D. Workman and C. Fry. This proved a point of difference over our closest rivals.

It was good to see the continued rival of our 400m relay teams, with the school searching for their first win in an APS Championship 400m relay since 1989. Strong results from the under 16, 17 and Open teams keeps our hopes alive of breaking that drought.

APS Athletics Junior Carnival (14th October)

October 16, 2015 by Peter McGarry Leave a Comment

Great results were recorded from St. Kevin’s generation neXt at the Junior Championship, with lots of SKAAC under 14 and 16 team members running, jumping and throwing themselves around the track.

The day started with SB’s and PB’s in the 800m races recorded by S. Ball, S. Kerr, N. Jackson, J. Mount and H. Bultjon. Special mention to O. Lane for running 2.17 and in the process taking 4 seconds off his PB.

The sprinters then took to the track with over 50 boys running in the 100m and 200m contests. There were plenty of highlights amongst the results and some performances that come to mind were L. Webb , M. Kim, X. Vaughan, H. Davies and T. Gilbert in the 100m. Flying off the bend in the 200m was J. Broadhurst, S. Davidson, J Heenatimulla and C. Stone.

In the field the boys were equally impressive with M. Hart soaring at the mats and in the pits. The big boys in shot were to be out done with huge throws from O. Ryan, J. Broderick and J. Lake.

The 1500m runners had to compete with the rising heat but the boys took on the challenge and recorded their best times for the year. Hugo “Milky” Goodman broke through the 5 minute barrier for the first time, closely followed by “Yo Yo” Yongdeng. Tom Scroggie was brave in the next race and broke the tape at 4.50, with Angus Birrell just bettering him in a time of 4.45 in the u15 final in a very mature race.

The relays at the end of the day allowed the students to combine and work as a team. SKC made a clean sweep of the 4×400 relays with one great front running win and two come from behind victory’s that showed the belief and depth of the team. Big legs were seen from S. Pirola, S. Mazzocca, X. Bolton, H. Pentland (running the 1500m on Saturday), B. Dempsy and J. Lunn

AV Shield Round 1 Results & Report

October 11, 2015 by Peter McGarry Leave a Comment

With a very quiet day in terms of Athletes present (9 only) it was surprising to see the Open Men finish 3rd and the Under 14 Men win their competition.

The performance of the day for the Mens team was Jack Holden’s 3:57 1500m and Jason Kozica’s 9:10 2000m walk. Great effort by Dino to carry the team by scoring 117 points.

A huge welcome to the 3 athletes to make their debuts for the club with Lauren McGarry, Joel Imbriano and Thomas Scroggie having a huge impact on their first day of competition. Thomas throwing the 600g Javelin for the first time and scoring 63 points was sensational along with Joel covering 6 events for the day and breaking the record as being the youngest ever competitor for the club at 9 years 149 days. Adam McGarry also did well to fit in 4 events in the 1 hour he was able to be at the track.

However, the top performance goes to 10 year old Lauren McGarry for throwing the 1kg Discus 20.04m. This effort amazingly breaks the Open 1kg Discus record which previously was set at 17.18 in 2007. Well Done Lauren.

2015 SKC/SKAAC Legend Day – 26 September 2015

September 27, 2015 by Peter McGarry Leave a Comment

What a great day the past Legends of SKC/SKAAC had at Box Hill Track on Saturday morning. Meeting the current stars of the 2015 SKC Athletics team, sharing experiences and being acknowledged for their own efforts “back in the day”.

Thanks to Simon Field, Jack Holden, Dylan Johnston, Anthony Aloisio, Steve Landers, Dan Bailey, Michael Romanin, Jeremy Weekes, Steve Fabris, & Brosie McCann for their attendance on the day. They are the best of the best men who are either past Captains of Athletics, APS Champions, School Record Holders or APS Record Holders.

Good luck to the SKC Athletics Team for the APS Sports that are to be held on 17 October 2015 at Lakeside Stadium.
