APS Athletics Junior Carnival (14th October)

October 16, 2015 by Peter McGarry Leave a Comment

Great results were recorded from St. Kevin’s generation neXt at the Junior Championship, with lots of SKAAC under 14 and 16 team members running, jumping and throwing themselves around the track.

The day started with SB’s and PB’s in the 800m races recorded by S. Ball, S. Kerr, N. Jackson, J. Mount and H. Bultjon. Special mention to O. Lane for running 2.17 and in the process taking 4 seconds off his PB.

The sprinters then took to the track with over 50 boys running in the 100m and 200m contests. There were plenty of highlights amongst the results and some performances that come to mind were L. Webb , M. Kim, X. Vaughan, H. Davies and T. Gilbert in the 100m. Flying off the bend in the 200m was J. Broadhurst, S. Davidson, J Heenatimulla and C. Stone.

In the field the boys were equally impressive with M. Hart soaring at the mats and in the pits. The big boys in shot were to be out done with huge throws from O. Ryan, J. Broderick and J. Lake.

The 1500m runners had to compete with the rising heat but the boys took on the challenge and recorded their best times for the year. Hugo “Milky” Goodman broke through the 5 minute barrier for the first time, closely followed by “Yo Yo” Yongdeng. Tom Scroggie was brave in the next race and broke the tape at 4.50, with Angus Birrell just bettering him in a time of 4.45 in the u15 final in a very mature race.

The relays at the end of the day allowed the students to combine and work as a team. SKC made a clean sweep of the 4×400 relays with one great front running win and two come from behind victory’s that showed the belief and depth of the team. Big legs were seen from S. Pirola, S. Mazzocca, X. Bolton, H. Pentland (running the 1500m on Saturday), B. Dempsy and J. Lunn
