SKAAC Athletes in action at GSV Div 1 Carnival

Some brilliant results for SKAAC athletes at yesterday’s GSV Division 1 Carnival at Lakeside Stadium.
In the Year 7-8 Age group:-
* Lulu Goodman…1500m 6:13.43
In the Year 9-10 Age group:-
* Georgia Durham… who qualified for Finals Night in 3 events… High Jump 1.41m; 800m 2:31.56; 1500m 5:01.39 which was a PB after a HUGE week of running that included the National Cross Country in Wollongong.
* Isabelle Collins… who qualified for Finals Night in 2 events…400m 68.37; 800m 2:26.47; 1500m 5:01.41 which was a PB for Isabelle.
* Ava Bennett…1500m 5:28.06;
* Ellie Ansett… 100m 13.71; 400m 65.31; 800m 2:32.77
In the Year 11-12 Age group:-
Eleanor Brown…100m 13.87; 400m 65.18; 800m 2:30.01; 1500m 5:19.28; High Jump 1.45m

A big congratulations to Loreto who won the Division 1 Carnival from Ruyton & Firbank in 2nd & 3rd respectively.

Our first Gold Coast Comm Games representative confirmed

SKAAC are pleased to announce our first 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Representative as Lincoln Mah !!
Lincoln has been selected from a large pool of local and international candidates to be an official at the games to be held in April 2018.
This is just reward for Lincoln who has quickly become one of Australia’s most competent officials, with his deep understanding of all things athletics especially from the technical side of things.
Well Done Lincoln.

Good luck to SKAAC Members in action at the GSV Athletics Div 1 Carnival tomorrow

SKAAC wishes Isabelle Collins, Georgia Durham, Ellie Ansett and Eleanor Brown all the best as they compete for Sacre Coeur and Loreto tomorrow in the Div 1 GSV Athletics Sports.

Also good luck to SKAAC Life Member Steve Cain, who is Head Coach at Strathcona, who compete on Thursday.

It has been a tight season for the girls with Cross Country only finishing recently and on the weekend in Wollongong for Georgia.

After the preliminary carnivals were decided earlier this month. The eight Div 1 schools competing tomorrow at Lakeside Stadium are:-

Steve Knuckey 6th in World Uni Games Final

Steve Knuckey has produced his season’s best when it counted in the World University Games 800m Final in Taipei on 28th August. In perfect conditions for middle distance racing, Steve managed to avoid plenty of trouble during the two lap dash finishing in 1:47.90.
In a race that resembled a 1st XV match as opposed to an elite 800m race, Steve was fantastic in the last 150m in a fast-finishing 6th place, showing just reward for the many months of build-up to make the final. Steve ran beautifully through the 3 rounds as well, progressively getting quicker each outing.
Bring on the Australian domestic summer!!

22 Years in the making – SKAAC finally taste APSOC Premiership success

Today SKAAC made history by securing not one, but two APSOC Cross Country Premierships in Division 1 & Division 2 at the Cooke McClelland Shield at Burke Hall over a punishing 8km.

Not only were Premierships secured in Division 1 for the first time since 1995, but Division 2 was also secured for the first time since well before 1998.

There have been so many great performances this season in the securing of the Div 1 Premiership, nearly too many to list, but I’m going to try anyway!!

Luke Mathews – stunning win at the Jamieson by nearly 40 seconds in SKAAC’s first Jamieson individual win in many years
Peter Bol – Cracking first leg at the Dyson in only his second race introduction to Anderson Street
Brad Mathas – Debut APSOC race at the Jamieson was a super important leg to get SKAAC off to a flyer in 2017. 3rd fastest SKAAC athlete at the Dyson.
Matt Hussey – SKC Year 10 and key member of the Div 1 team at the Jamieson this season, super debut run and prodigious talent. Did not look out of place in the team photo alongside some of the country’s best distance runners.
Ben Tipper – Fantastic effort to make the Top 10 at the Jamieson. As strong as any of them down the stretch at Scotch at the Jamieson – massive future, also looked at home amongst National Champions & Olympians in the winning team photo at the Jamieson.
Alex Rowe – SKAAC had 3 winning teams for the season and Alex was the only athlete to figure in all 3 winning teams
Anthony Aloisio – past APSOC Athlete of the Year part of the near record winning team at the Dyson Relay
Jack Holden – Battled injury to get to the start line and was magnificent in the Dyson team that all broke 12 minutes each for The Tan. A super committed effort under extreme duress.
Mark Deluca – Club stalwart and past APSOC Athlete of the Year, who has given so much over the years. Huge leg at the Dyson to bring the team home, nearly 3 minutes in front of second place
Tristan Day – A massive Year 10 talent from Trinity Grammar who raced brilliantly at the Williamson, beating home his idol Craig Mottram in the process. Backed up for a crucial Cooke McClelland 8km to finish 7th overall.
Callum Day – Raced at the Williamson for 13th overall and cracked the Top 10 at the Cooke McClelland. Huge upside after previously being an elite basketballer. Watch out for 2018!!
Luca Di Conza – Youngest member by a mile at only 13 years of age and finished in Top 20 at the Williamson. The further the distance the better. Reigning Under 14 Track & Field Club Champion
Steve Fabris – SKAAC Committee Member and ultimate team sacrifice to face the starter at the Williamson and again at the Hooley, and despite better judgement at the Cooke. Premiership success is such a rich reward for Fab’s passion and commitment to the Green, Gold & Blue. Coach to many of the Premiership winning team members.
Simon Field – Busted up, and he’ll be cursing when he wakes up on Monday morning, but there was no way SKAAC were ever going to give in with Fieldy on board. Two time AV XCR Athlete of the year and SKC & SKAAC Legend. Smashed it at the Williamson, Hooley and Cooke.
Joe Lynch – Life member and SKAAC’s “Mr Dependable” So appropriate that he is a big part of the success of 2017. You can always count on “Lynchy”
Xavier Chapman – Former APSOC Athlete of the Year and brilliant race winner at the Cooke McClelland in the last race of the season backing up his “fastest for SKAAC” at the Williamson. Has given so much to SKAAC Cross Country over the years, so to now be part of team success is a great return for Xavier’s commitment in the lean years.
Lincoln Mah – Like Fab part of the current SKAAC Committee and LOYAL servant to the club. Great run in one of the most important races for the club in nearly a quarter of a century.

The Sunday fixture of the Cooke McClelland seemed to play into our hands, with exactly 12 brave SKAAC athletes facing the starter, with each and every single member CRUCIAL in the securing of the Club’s two deserved Premierships. If 1 of the 12 did not run today, the Div 2 Premiership would have been won by Old Carey. Whoever said this sport runs on a knife edge, certainly knew what they were talking about.

Adam & Steve @ World University Games

Missing athletics on the world stage after the fantastic London World Championships? Well I may have an answer. The World University Games begin on 23rd August 2017 and like London there is some TOP SHELF SKAAC talent strutting their stuff in Taipei.

Luke Mathews – fastest qualifier in London

As a totally biased SKAAC writer, I found myself in awe of what Luke Mathews achieved at about 5:40am Melbourne time this morning, becoming SKAAC’s first ever Heat Winner in a World Championships beating a HIGH quality field in running 3:38.19 to win Heat 3.
Getting a great start, and settling 4th, Luke put himself in a great position to strike when the inevitable burst came from behind. When that burst came, Luke was not only able to move forward into 3rd spot with 200 to run, but hold his rail position and surge to the line for a famous win and a super confidence lift ahead of the semi-final on Saturday.
Luke, you have done yourself, your family and your club proud today. Rest up and take ’em down in the semi!!

World Championships for Luke, Sam & Peter

With many following the qualification progress of Luke, Sam & Peter in quite a bit of detail, most probably already know that they will represent Australia at the London World Championships in the 1500m, 5000m & 800m respectively.
But, let’s stop for a moment….This is a HUGE achievement.
The standards got tighter from Rio and the lads were able to back-up so magnificently to earn another Australian singlet.
A big congratulations to their coaches Nic Bideau and Justin Rinaldi who have done a power of work to get them to this point.
Let’s all enjoy watching their progress, as this is a treat for all of SKAAC to enjoy.

Cross Country…The Next Generation

SKAAC Committee Members Brosie McCann, Steve Fabris & Peter McGarry had the pleasure of hosting a dinner for 7 members the club’s 2016 & 2017 Year 12 Cross Country participants. Astonishingly there were another 4 members who unfortunately could not make the night, a clear sign of the opportunity that exists for this group to stick together a chart a course of success both on and off the track.

The night was designed to allow us as a Committee to thank each of these athletes for their long contribution to their school running endeavours and to reinforce our support for their continued enjoyment of running post their school careers, and to outline some of the plans the club has for the 2018 Cross Country season, as SKAAC becomes a stand-alone AV Winter club.
