SKAAC Records and All-Time Lists Policy
At the committee meeting of 10 October 2005, the committee resolved outstanding issues relating to the determination of what is, and is not, a club record. The following statements detail the rulings of the committee in relation to the five issues at hand.
If any club member identifies an issue which has not been considered by the committee, the committee asks that the additional issue be advised to any member of the SKAAC Committee in writing.
Under-Age definitions
For the purposes of under-age records, the athlete’s age must be under the relevant age on the day of the performance. In multi-events such as heptathlon and decathlon, the final day of competition is the day on which the comparison occurs. For the purposes of this definition, all under-age records which stand as at the 30 September 2005 will stand, even if they do not meet the test above.
Manual versus electronic times
It should be noted that records and all-time lists record manual (hand-timed) performances to one decimal place, and all electronic performances to two decimal places. Recorded results are not converted from one form to the other.
In the case of all-time lists, for the purpose of rankings, a manual time will be placed in the list in the position which it would place if such a ‘conversion’ had taken place in accordance with conventions agreed by the Association of Track and Field Statisticians.
At present this convention is that for events of less than 400m duration, the manual time is to be penalised by 0.24 seconds for the purpose of ranking. For 400m, the penalty is 0.14 seconds. For events over 400m, there is no difference.
Wind Assistance
SKAAC records have for many years been accepted even if the wind conditions were particularly favourable. The committee believes that wind-assisted records should continue to count because of:
- the regularity with which wind readings are not available, and
- the difficulties in subjectively assessing wind speeds in the absence of a wind gauge.
However, for information purposes, the records officer will record on records and ranking lists any wind readings which are available.
Status of second-claim athletes
Provided a second-claim member is financial and registered, and has competed for the club during that season, the performances by that second-claim athlete shall count for records and ranking purposes during that season.
Performances in Schools Competitions
In general, performances in schools competitions will not count for SKAAC records or rankings lists inclusions. The one exception to this rule is where in any given year, the only National Championship in the athlete’s age-group is a National Schools Championship, then any performances in that specific National Schools Championship may be considered for SKAAC under-age records, and all SKAAC rankings lists.
