The entire SKAAC Community is saddened to advise the passing of SKAAC Life Member #8, Maurie Lynch after a tough battle with a rare form of skin cancer. Maurie was, and will continue to be, remembered as a great supporter of all things SKAAC. He was an astute judge of athletes and always had a stopwatch close by. He always knew where to stand, be it at the track or out on the course, for many this would be at the start of the home straight in a 400m, where his yelling of encouragement would be something that every SKAAC athlete could count on at about that spot where the “bear” was looking to jump on board.
Maurie was a fantastic athlete in his own right, holding the club3,000m steeplechase record for many seasons.
In an amazing piece of symmetry, Maurie ran the Jamieson race in 2000 when the SKAAC Women broke through for the SKAAC’s first ever APSOC Female Teams race win. It would not be until 2018 that the SKAAC Women would salute in an APSOC teams race again.
Two of Maurie’s sons Joe & Eamon have been long-time member’s of SKAAC and are well known for a similar passion for all things SKAAC, exactly the same as their father, the great Maurie Lynch.
All at SKAAC send their deepest condolences to the entire Lynch family.
All SKAAC athletes/supporters & friends of Maurie Lynch are welcome to attend the celebration of his life at 1:30pm on 8/8/2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 345 Burwood Road Hawthorn.
Also all SKAAC athletes are encouraged to wear black armbands at the Cooke McClelland Shield this coming Saturday at Studley Park at 2:30pm.
Vale Maurie Lynch
